I was honestly just doing a favor for a friend.

Doug’s father-in-law passed away. His wife and her mother were understandably distressed, so Doug volunteered to dig through years of acquired junk and clean out his in-laws’ storage space.

Imagine Doug’s surprise when he stumbled upon two cardboard boxes filled with issues of PLAYBOY dated from 1959 through 1982. Not every issue – just select copies, here and there. Enough to fill both containers and freak out Doug’s mother-in-law.

“Why did you even tell her?” I asked Doug.

“It seemed like the right thing to do,” he confessed. “It was a lot of magazines.”

“What was her reaction?” I asked.

“She wanted me to throw them all in the trash, without even bothering to recycle them,” Doug said.

“It’s not like he was hiding HUSTLER or BLUE BOY,” I chuckled.

“What’s BLUE BOY?” he asked.

I changed the topic.

“What are you going to do with them?”

Doug grinned. “Well, you sell stuff on ebay, right? Maybe there’s some value, right? Many of the magazines are more than 50 years old.”

After I bought a house in 1998, my mother requested that I remove all of my childhood things so she could sell…
